Home From the Fields

At dawn, first light
Begin again
Family hands pull together
Bring the harvest in
Though we labor long
Always more to be done
Put your tools away for evening
Supper bell has rung
It calls us….

Home from the fields
The work is done
Home from the fields
In the setting sun

Birds flock to trees
Bees return to the hive
Working folk take the shady lane homeward
Gather at the table side
Glad to be…

Home from the fields
The work is done
Home from the fields
In the setting sun

BRIDGE:
Chores done, children scatter after dinner
Tea and spirits for grown-ups and friends
The news mixed with stories and gossip
Of blessings and sins
A favorite on the fiddle is played
And every-one in their own way joins in

Blue skies turn gold
Quiet fading of the light
The restless beauty never grows old
At the close (at the close) of the day
Something in us opens to the night

Home from the fields
The work is done
Home from the fields
In the setting sun
