Blarney & Bloggy Bits

Where old blarney goes when it's no longer "front page fresh" - flash frozen and put on display in this lovely container.... You might call this the "blog archive" - I don't know. Is J. Oscar really keeping a blog? I don't know. Maybe....

It's July, Firefly!

J. Oscar amused by the muse

Wheeew, things sure are hotting up - hope we see some fireflies tonight.

The kid in me still thinks about finding a canning jar and punch holes in the top to "collect" fireflies. The first time I did, despite parental discouragement, I took the jar to my room so I could watch them blink while I fell asleep.

In the morning they were gone, the lucky ones out through holes in the top. I felt terrible and wished they could be sent back to the night.

Into the Arms of May

The framing has been set, the walls and roof are in place and the trim and painting begun.

J. Oscar amused by the museThis website is "open while under construction" (no funky little animated yellow triangle worker graphic necessary). Thanks for visiting and hope you find a bit of info, fun, and music here.

A section called J.O.B. PRESENTS has been added to highlight Special Events I am producing or are taking part in (such as the Nick Fink's Saloon Concert series referenced below). They will also be listed in the LIVE events list currently being assembled from scavenged parts....

Speaking of the Nick Fink's Saloon Concert series - I will be introducing a NEW SONG at each of the 6 concerts. I'll post a post-concert version so, if you can't be there, you can hear it here (and perhaps at Octoberday.com - also being revised...)

Update (2010-05-03): Karisa Wilson has joined the July 9 Saloon Concert bill featuring Dave Boutette!

These "construction updates" may eventually become a blog, but for now you can keep up with pictures and social blarney on Facebook - please add me to your FBFs; it'll be like having coffee!

Cheers!  =J. Oscar

2010 - Time for a Change

Thanks for visiting this website during it's makeover - it's getting a "content management" retrofit (using Joomla, for those inquiring geek minds). The "remod" will include a new calendar, bio, pictures, blogs and other artist type info.

For now, consider this page as one of those multi-vane signposts pointing to destinations near and far. Please visit any or each.

Eventually there will be a feed, links to social networking sites and the rest but, for now, consider joining the OctoberDay mailing list for updates.

You've got plenty of reading for now if it you want it - we'll put some more pictures in soon, too.

Cheers,
=J. Oscar

June arrives sweet and demure

Ah, the early Summer, one of my favorite times of the year. The first truly warm days invite you to stretch on a grassy hill, watch clouds and people and thoughts drift by. (Well that what I like to do... there's plenty of work as well...)

I dig being outside (even working) and love to play (and hear) music outdoors. Even though I love the sounds people make I have a particular fondness for the incomprehensibly beautiful music made by the non-human population of our planet.

I especially like the nighttime - feeling the currents of heat and cool as you move, the cricket songs and catching scents of flowers, grilling, tanning lotion, dryer-sheets (?!) and earthy tones as the twilight comes on. The night dome darkens and the stars come up though the trees and the city's towers. It's a beautiful thing to walk (or take a bike or scooter ride) beneath such a giant sky. Feeling small somehow feels big.

Living in Michigan you can end up on the rustic side of life without going to far. Being a small town lad I rather like that.Perhaps we'll catch up, or get to swap songs, around a campfire or a music festival encampment this summer?

The Project That Ate the Summer...

The RE-LAUNCH of Octoberday.com has become a much larger job that previously imagined. Changing our shopping cart provider has required rethinking design choices and re-loading products. The benefit is that it's also allowed Sid to integrate new features (and for me to polish new recordings on offer when the site goes live).

Get on the notification list - email sid@octoberday.com if you want to be part of "the reveal". Or just drop by http://www.Octoberday.com occasionally to see what's up - Cheers!
